The year open data went worldwide: Tim B-L at TED

Tuesday March 30th, 2010

We are deeply honored that our work has been presented at TED by none other than the Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the World Wide Web.

(many thanks to Yuri for the heads-up!)

Prime Time!

Wednesday February 24th, 2010

At the beginning of February, we were approached by Talis to collaborate on a challenging project. The brief was to produce a visualization on behalf of the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills in time for the Prime Minister's Global Investment Conference on February 22nd.

Over two intense weeks, we worked closely with Talis' talented team of semantic web developers to deliver the Research Funding Explorer, an interactive application showing investment hotspots and the centers of excellence delivering innovative research publications in the UK.

Proof, if none were needed, that nothing focuses the mind like a good deadline.

Where Does My Money Go?

Thursday December 3rd, 2009

We've come to end of a busy autumn period at iconomical, with the launch of our latest online visualization. This interactive prototype shows the patterns of UK public spending, and hopefully provides the basis for a more complete visualization in the New Year!

Enjoy!

Toys on tour at PICNIC09

Monday September 28th, 2009

Last week the multitouch table was again dismantled for a visit to PICNIC09.

This display visualized the event program, alongside a geotagged picure feed from Mobypicture, showing a clear distinction between events in the past and the future. The table was a great success, providing a social space close to the PICNIC club restaurant, as a home-grown alternative to the Microsoft Surface table close by.

Multitouch table in the Bimhuis

Sunday September 6th, 2009

This week saw the successful launch of our multitouch table, developed in collaboration with Studio Sophisti and Muziek Centrum Nederland.

The installation was devised to mark the four-day residency of the Instant Composer's Pool at the Bimhuis in Amsterdam, September 2009. Concert goers browse images and multimedia from a career spanning four decades. Content was curated by Ditmer Weertman, from MCN's extensive archive. It was a pleasure to see long-time fans of the ICP engage with the presentation, and a great performance by the vetarans of Dutch improvisation.

The table will also appear at the opening concert of the newly renovated hall in De Doelen, Rotterdam, with a presentation of the works of Peter-Jan Wagemans.

London Gazette Browser launches

Monday July 27th, 2009

The London Gazette Browser is now online.

This visualization of pollution control permit applications offers a powerful representation of legislative activity in various industries around the United Kingdom. In a multi-dimensional interface, users can frame complex search queries to explore the Gazette's data in the context of time, place and type of installation.

Iconomical have been working with The Stationery Office and the Office of Public Sector Information to make this data presentation.
